Three Things About Me!

  1. I absolutely love vegetables and hate meat! I can eat vegetables everyday, raw or cooked! I hate that meat has that metallic taste (and I’m only pescatarian, now trying to become vegetarian)

2. I LOVE Miraculous Ladybug! It’s currently airing season 2 and I’m so excited to see what happens!

3. I really like the colour pink, although even though when I was a child I hated pink since it was too girly 😂

Rhea’s Questions:

1.If you were stuck on an island alone, which 3 books would you want to have to pass your time?

Cinder by Marissa Meyer, Of Poseidon by Anna Banks and The Cage by Megan Shepherd!

2.Would you rather read one book for an entire year and remember everything about it, or read as many books as you want through the year but remember nothing from them?

I would rather read as many books as I want through the year but remember nothing from them! I cannot stand re-reading books!

3.Which fictional character best shows you as a person?

Although Cress isn’t my favourite The Lunar Chronicles character, I feel that me and her are really really similar

4.One main character in a series who you really dislike.

Alina from the Grisha Trilogy. I felt that her entire character arc throughout the three books was built up great but fell flat too fast.

5.What is currently your favourite song?

I’m currently addicted to Havana by Camila Cabello!

My Questions:

1.Which author’s books would you buy even without reading the synopsis?

2.Have you bought a book based on the cover? Which one was it?

3.Best book you’ve read in 2017?

4.The most anticipated book for 2018?

5.Candles or flowers?

Thanks for reading!

NaNoWriMo 2017 (Final update)

Although it was my first time actually taking part in NaNoWriMo, I’m so proud to finally say that I’m done with the first draft of my novel!

Screen Shot 2017-11-29 at 4.42.08 PM.png

My novel has 60k words (I wrote an extra 10k since I started with an extra 10k words) and am so proud of myself that I managed to do it!

The first three weeks were a struggle because I had problems with coming up with chapter ideas and getting the writing ball rolling.

But week 4 was the toughest week of all.

I was mainly sick throughout week 4, it started with a small throat infection and then it blew up into a stomach flu. I was vomiting for 3 days straight and couldn’t get anything into my system, even the medicine wasn’t being absorbed into my body. Also, it was the last few days and nearing the date of my Malaysia trip (Check out the post here). So I got an injection and the vomiting stopped.

But I was drowsy for days and trying to get my body back up and running and the throat infection returned again.

Although I had already hit the 50k word mark, I still really wanted to hit the 60k mark before validating my win. But since all the sickness arose at a very horrible timing, I decided to validate my win first and would get to work again once I’m better.

So I focused on my recovery and went for my trip. The next day when I got back, I definitely felt much better and got to work. But the day after that I was still having a sore throat and blocked nose (I still am having it now)

But I’m glad to say that I’m done! Like really really done, before November finishes!

Although it was a tiring journey, it was really full of experience and today when I was writing, I teared two times knowing that the story had come to an end.

Thank you for all the support I’ve received from you guys over here, it was definitely really encouraging and kept me going!

Book review: Wires and Nerve Volume 1 by Marissa Meyer (Author) and Doug Holgate (Illustrator) (5 stars)

[Synopsis] (Taken from goodreads)

When rogue packs of wolf-hybrid soldiers threaten the tenuous peace alliance between Earth and Luna, Iko takes it upon herself to hunt down the soldiers’ leader. She is soon working with a handsome royal guard who forces her to question everything she knows about love, loyalty, and her own humanity. With appearances by Cinder and the rest of the Rampion crew, this is a must-have for fans of the series.

(DISCLAIMER: This is my opinion only, contains spoilers for the book, may contain coarse language)

  • I was so excited when I saw this graphic novel sitting on the library shelf, because I’ve been checking regularly and my library had no record of this book. I was pacing around the library as though I opened my christmas present from Marissa Meyer herself😂
  • After reading the graphic novel, of course I gave 5 stars to this novel! All our favorite characters reappear once more and yet we have more insight about Iko and the events that happen after Winter
  • I wanted to keep the book so badly but as they say “If you love it, let it go” and I hope more people will have the chance to read this graphic novel once I return it!
  • So anyway, the graphic novel is set right after the book Winter, where Levana’s mutants are still roaming the streets
  • Although I wasn’t a fan of the drawing when I first saw it, I ending up liking it as through the panels , you could see how much effort and thought goes into each picture
  • Ikon takes matters into her own hands as she apprehends the mutants
  • The humour in this graphic novel is so cute
  • And this graphic novel really allows for Iko and Cinder’s friendship to shine through (even more than the novels!)
  • God, the Cresswell ship is flying and on cloud 9, but they are so cute together OMG
  • This book made me like Thorne more, not that I don’t like him at the start, but it gave more insight as to his different expressions and reactions
  • I smell a new ship coming (Iko and Liam) although this was hinted at in the book Winter, Marissa Meyer has made our dreams come true (for now)
  • I think all the fans want to see the wedding between Cinder and Kai, but that would be a really bittersweet ending, because once that happens, we know the story truly ends there.

Desperate to find the mother she’s never met, Ambrosia convinces him to let her help. It’s a partnership of necessity and founded in deception, but Ambrosia is faced with an uncomfortable truth: this man is not the monster she has always envisioned him to be. Worse yet, she finds herself drawn to him…craving his touch. How can she reconcile these intense feelings for the man who shattered her life?

The first novel in the exciting new Beyond the Gods series, Nectar of the Gods is a fantasy romance steeped in Greek Mythology and full of passion that will leave you breathless.

For the first time in ages, I woke up alone. One might think a woman who had spent months sharing her bed with countless strangers would be relieved at the change. I was troubled to find that I was suffocated by the empty space next to me. I only let myself linger in the sheets for a moment before I needed to get away from the feeling of emptiness.

But the disheartening dark cloud chased me as I wrapped myself up in the sheets and paced the room. Catching a glimpse of myself in the full-length mirror hiding in the corner was sobering. My eyes were glassy and hazed. My spirit was missing from them and had been replaced by throbbing red lines left behind by my night of tearful realization.

My newfound weakness was disgusting and terrifying at once. I tried to think back, to find the point where I had first become so desperately lonely. There was a time when I’d been completely indifferent to any company. The love of a man was the last thing I’d wanted, and I had guarded myself fiercely against it. I had always preferred to be alone.

Well, I supposed that was not completely true. When I was a child, I’d longed for the company of others to play with. I dreamed of escaping the prison of lessons and studies. Instead of learning to sharpen swords, I wished with all of my heart for another person my age to play pirates with using pretend ones.

I mourned for the confident, complete woman I had lost so suddenly. When had I become this lost, dejected little girl all over again?

I pointed a critical stare at my reflection. From the day I’d met Perseus, I had seen the savage destruction love had left him with. It was the kind of pain a shield couldn’t protect against. Almost all the men who frequented the tavern wore the same shattered mask, and now, without a choice at all, I wore it, too.

‘You’re not good enough’ Book tag

I was tagged by Bookdutchess and also saw this tag over at nosestuckinabook‘s blog!

This was a tag created by ReadLikeWildfire and Beccathebookreviewer, and what you have to do is write down 30 character names on pieces of paper, put them in a bowl/cup/jar, and then choose two at random for every question. After you’ve picked your two victims, you decide which one of them fits the question/situation, and which one isn’t “good enough”.

1. You only have one more spot on your Spelling B team, who would you pick to complete your team?

I had to pick between Star (Star Vs the Forces of Evil) (Sorry, I suck at remembering characters) and Tristan (The Clann series).

I would definitely pick Tristan since he’s a straight A student and would definitely help me to win! Star might use her wand and totally get us into trouble😂

2. Both characters want to kill you, which one would you kill first so you have a better chance of surviving?

I had to choose between Thorne (The Lunar Chronicles) and Eliza (Eliza and her monsters).

I’m sorry Thorne, but I would have to kill you first.

3. You’re on the bachelor/bachelorette and you’re down to these two characters, which one are you going to give your rose too?

Choice between Emma (Of Poseidon) and Cress (The Lunar Chronicles)

I would give my rose to Cress, since I feel that we would click better.

4. You’ve been chosen for the Hunger Games, who would most likely volunteer in your place?

I had to choose between Marinette (Miraculous Ladybug) and Cinder (The Lunar Chronicles)

I literally jumped out from my chair! Both of them would volunteer for me! But I would choose Cinder since I know she would win. I don’t want Marinette’s death!

5. You’re stranded on an island. Which character would you sacrifice to engage in cannibalism?

I had to pick between Marco (Star vs the forces of evil) and Mare (Red Queen)

Oh good Lord, I can’t pick! Erm… Marco?

6. You’re the next DC/Marvel superhero (with your own tv show of course), who is your sidekick?

I had to choose between Cal (Red Queen) and Bruce Wayne (Gotham: Dawn of Darkness)

I totally wanted to walk away from this😂 I would choose Bruce since I know he would be an awesome hero as well as sidekick!

7. You’re a manager of an Avocado admiring company, who would you fire for lack of communication skills?

I had to pick between Adrien (Miraculous Ladybug) and Death (The Arcana Chronicles)

Oh, I’m sorry, I would fire Death. He doesn’t talk much anyway, but he could threaten those who farm too much avocado. Adrien would definitely have great communication skills.

8. You’ve just finished a book in which your favorite character dies, which character is most likely to comfort you?

I had to choose between Wolf (The Lunar Chronicles) and Cassian (The Cage series)

I would pick wolf! Wolf would be there for you when you needed him!

9. Ugh, it’s high school. Who would most likely be part of the popular clique?

I had to pick between Kai and Scarlet (The Lunar Chronicles)

Popular clique? Definitely Kai since he’s been raised as a Prince, he would definitely be really good at popularity.

10. The day has arrived; you’re finally a year older! Who would have the nerve to forget your birthday?

I had to choose between Celestine (Flawed) and The Darkling (Grisha Trilogy)

I think out of the two, it would be The Darkling! Who would have time to remember someone’s birthday if they’re too busy trying to own the world?

11. You’ve just found an upcoming booktube star? Who would it most likely be?

I had to choose between Evie (The Arcana Chronicles) and Fiona (Stung)

Hm… Oh gosh, I would choose Fiona! Because Evie would definitely read a ton of books about post-apocalyptic stuff with a ton of survival and zombies and I get freaked out easily if someone keeps talking about it.

12. Sleepover time! Unfortunately, you can only invite one person, who would you invite?

I have to choose between Bowen (Stung) and Noah (Mara Dyer series)

I would choose Bowen because I think I would be able to get along with him better.

13. Bam, you’re pregnant. Who’s the father/mother?

I had to choose between Galen (Of Poseidon) and Maven (Red Queen)

OMG, I would definitely say Galen, I cannot imagine Maven bringing up a child (I’m sorry to the Maven fans)

14. You’ve just written a super important text. Who would ‘see’ it, but not reply?

I had to choose between Cora (The Cage) and Savannah (The Clann series)

I think Cora wouldn’t reply. I think she would reply it to my face instead of the message.

15. You’ve just woken up and it’s time for breakfast. Your mom’s been replaced by..who?!

I have to pick between Mara (Mara Dyer trilogy) and Levana (The Lunar Chronicles)

MARA! Without hesitation! I cannot imagine being brought up by Levana, see what happened to Winter?

Oh God, this tag was so fun and it made me gasp every time I had to pick two names. But it was so fun! I think everyone should give it a go! Feel free to tag yourself!
