Movie Review: Monster Family (2018) (1 Star)

“Life is a journey, and I like to travel in style.”

Title: Monster Family

Director: Holger Tappe

Runtime/ Rating: 96 minutes/ PG13

Genre: Animation, Comedy , Family

Despite the title, the Wishbone family are far from happy. Dracula’s spell turns them into a vampire, a mummy, a werewolf and Frankenstein’s monster.

Rating: 1 star

Music used was very medieval, vampiric (organ) and classical, helping to bring out the entire monster and feeling out of place vibe throughout the movie.

I liked the colouring of the movie though.

Emma Wishbone accidentally calls Dracula, and he felt that she was the one for him, so in an attempt to make Emma his bride, he lets loose a witch to change her into a vampire, but her entire family gets changed into monsters.

There was a little comedy, but it didn’t really entertain me. Throughout the movie and even a few days after I watched the movie, I was confused as to what went on and who the intended target audience was for this movie.

This movie reminded me of the incredibles and the animation was ok. Bits and pieces reminded me of Twilight and a reverse Hotel Transylvania.

This movie was incredibly cheesy and majority of the men in this movie are annoying and psycho. It wasn’t emotional at all.

The movie was too convenient and it had a confusing plot, it felt too ambitious and there were too many subplots that drew the attention away from the main story.

I was more surprised to find out that this was a book to movie adaptation! The book is titled Happy family by David Safier.
