Movie Review: Skyscraper (2018) (4 stars)

“In order to be brave, we got to be a little scared.”

Title: Skyscraper (2018)

Genre: Action, Thriller, Family

Rating: 4 stars

Will, an ex-FBI agent and security expert must infiltrate The Pearl, a burning skyscraper to save his family when they are trapped by notorious criminals.

The music was brooding, dark, full of action and suspense. The lighting was mainly cool and helped to bring out the technical aspect of the film.

I actually did feel that the CGI was done pretty well. The concept of this movie definitely reminded me of the book The thousandth floor.

I know there were a ton of negative reviews saying that it was a very generic action flick and that the Rock’s acting was quite bland and we literally see him everywhere. But I actually enjoyed the movie quite a bit. I’ve never been a big fan of action movies, but there are only so many ways to do an action flick, and I think that Skyscraper actually did it pretty okay while following the Hero’s journey. I actually found that Dwayne Johnson’s acting was pretty good.

Will is a character you root for since the start of the movie and throughout the movie, I was kept in suspense and on the edge of my seat. I actually enjoyed this movie but know that critics and long time action movie fans may not give this one a thumbs up, but I will.
