(DISCLAIMER: This review is based on my opinion only.)

Comet has an eye-catching name but she hates standing out in the crowd. When Tobias, an American transfers to their school in Scotland, Comet is sure that she has this bad-boy all figured out, but she doesn’t. When the two of them are thrown into an assignment together, something blooms. But everyone else isn’t impressed and Comet is targetted by bullies and thrown head-first into the spotlight.

Instantly I already found myself relating to Comet since I’m really shy too and rather not be in the spotlight. She frequently turns her friends down to be alone and to enjoy books. I resonated so strongly with Comet that it was scary.

I love the writing style as it gave Comet a good ‘voice’ throughout the story. I definitely emphatized with Comet since her parents don’t seem to care about her. I loved Comet’s character arc and how we see her grow stronger within the book.

I liked the progression of events and was surprised by how ‘dark’ it was since I went into the book thinking that it would be lighthearted. It was a heartbreaking book that made me tear a lot of times. I was impressed and loved that the ‘grand gesture’ was done by the girl instead of the guy.

Trigger: Bullying and drug abuse
