Bernadina (Blue) has to take over her dad’s role of being the Queen’s Alchemist and discovers a conspiracy the requires her to save the life of a Prince she detests.

Apparently I read the first book in the series, but I do not remember.

The world building was okay, but not very explained as well, but since it’s book 4 of a series, I’m sure the previous books have done the world building that was needed. The whole fae magic concept was great, the start was okay, but the pacing was horribly slow and I couldn’t see where the story was going.

I read the synopsis a long time ago and didn’t want to reread the synopsis, so I realised that this was a Cinderella retelling only 30% into the book. (Wow, I swear I didn’t pay enough attention to the cover, it literally screams that it is a Cinderella retelling LOL)

What I did like was that Blue and Kellan’s relationship was really progressive and not rushed.

I did feel that this book actually can be read as a standalone. Unfortunately for me, I wasn’t a fan of the writing style and pacing. I also didn’t connect to the characters or story.
